Quartzel family is composed of a wide variety of products. It mainly consists in yarns, rovings and felts but this is not all. In addition to these common textile presentations, Saint-Gobain offers products for more specific use such as stitching yarn or packings and several others.
Quartzel® yarns are assemblies of 9 or 14 microns continuous fused quartz filaments assembled together and twisted.
They are essentially used for their combined low dielectric properties, high mechanical strength and high thermal resistance.
Our yarns presentation can be single, plied or cabled. Our yarns can be used in many of the standard textile processes:
Quartzel® Rovings are assemblies of continuous 9 or 14 microns fused quartz filaments combined into strands (or ends), then assembled together with no twist:
Our rovings can be used in many of the standard textile processes:
Quartzel® Chopped Strands are produced from continuous 9 or 14 microns fibers which are cut to a predetermined length.
Our Chopped Strands can be used in many of the standard textile processes:
Quartzel® Wool is made from pure fused quartz fiber. It is amorphous, continuous, with non volatile or binder components and no shots.
Quartzel® Low Density Felts are produced from 9 microns wool by impregnating with a PVA binder. Low density felts are easy to handle. Our customers may cut them to the appropriate dimensions with simple cutting tools. They have a soft touch and strong integrity.
These felts with high density are also produced from pure fused quarts fibers. Very low thermal conductivity and low shrinkage at elevated temperature are the key advantages of this material while still retaining the purity of quartz.
Quartzel® sewing thread is made by plying fused quartz yarns (9 microns based continuous filaments). Fiber composition is 99.99% SiO2 exclusive of binder. It is available either uncoated or with PTFE coating
Quartzel® ropes are used for seals at elevated temperatures in environments where standard products could pollute or are unable to resist to chemical aggression.
Quartzel® veils are lightweight non-woven products made from Quartzel chopped fibers. They can be used as thermal insulant for Aerospace structures or as reinforcement for composites (surfacing material, substrate for electronic or luxury goods).
