Thermal comfort is a key element for rolling stock manufacturers and performant HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) systems have become essential in this industry. HVAC systems are designed to provide a reliable and high level of comfort to passengers while ensuring optimal air quality.
One of the most efficient heating system is made of tubular steel heaters stuffed with magnesium oxide, a material selected for its excellent thermal conductivity and electrical insulation, and nickel chrome wire which provides the heat to the system by Joule effect. The main challenge of using this solution is linked to the high voltage sent through it closely to the passengers, a best-in-class electrical insulation has to be used to ensure passenger safety.
